Is that our Church Hall?

Is that our Church Hall?

On Friday the 8th March Alister & Christine’s son Andy and his Fiancé Nic arrived in Harrogate along with a host of family and friends.  Once Rainbows had finished on Friday night, the huge task of turning what is normally a very ordinary Church Hall into an extraordinary Wedding Reception Venue began.  Tables were laid, lights were put up and literally 100s of pieces of china were laid out on exquisitely covered tables.  After a beautiful wedding service led by Alister the 141 guest at the wedding sat down to a typical English afternoon tea.  A group of amazing ladies and a couple of gents helped throughout the day.  They served drinks and refreshments in the Church after the service, while the children wandered between the guests offering cake pops and nibbles.  During this time the Church Hall was a hive of activity preparing sandwiches and heating savoury nibbles.  Then it was the task of filling the 54 cake stands with scrumptious finger food and preparing over 36 pots of tea.  The guests arrived in the Church Hall for Tea at 4:00pm and were served by 8 of Bilton’s best waitresses – with a member of the Wedding party claiming the service was better than a Hotel wedding they had attended that had cost a fortune.  Now all the above sounds like a huge task but not as big as the washing up that flooded the kitchen once the speeches had finished.  Maggie did an amazing job, quite literally tied to the kitchen sink for two and a half hours, with everyone else clearing, drying and tidying.  If you think its time to take a breath – wrong, now it was time to serve the 141 guests with sausage and chips!  Sam and his colleagues at Simpson’s fisheries cooked all the chips and Helen Tennison did an amazing job with a not so good oven and some last minute frying to cook the sausages.  I don’t think she will be eating sausages for some time!!  It was then the final push to serve everyone with hot sausage and chips which was amazing to see a queue of people waiting in a line for theirs.   I know I haven’t managed to mention everyone and everything from the home made wine to the beautiful table plan and lots in between.

So there is just one final thing to say and that’s WELL DONE TO ALL !! Every detail was perfect and Christine’s baking was exceptional, Family & Friends all pulled together and made it an amazing day for Andy and Nic and the helper’s team all hope that everyone will look back on it with fond memories.
