Parish Farewell to Reverend Darren McClintock

Parish Farewell to Reverend Darren McClintock

On Sunday 1st March the Parish bade farewell to Reverend Darren McClintock as Team Vicar. We gave him a great send-off, together with his wife Cass and their daughters Emma and Sophia. The Parish Communion service was held at St Luke’s and about 170 people attended from across the Parish. Following the service, which was accompanied by a music group composed of musicians from St John’s and St Luke’s, the Parish presented Darren and his family with various presents, including a picture frame height measure for the girls, flowers for Cass (and posies for Emma and Sophia), a beautiful stained glass cross for their new home and John Lewis vouchers.
Following the presentations, about 100 people stayed on to a ‘bring and share’ lunch and a further opportunity to chat to Darren and Cass. Darren has been Team Vicar for 10 years with particular responsibility for St Luke’s. When he arrived the congregation was at the older end of the age spectrum. Darren has always had a heart for family worship and during his period with us, the average age of the congregation at St Luke’s has dropped significantly as numbers have grown. He introduced Thursday Themes After School Club and supported Little Fishes Parent and Toddler Group. On Sundays our groups for children and young people have multiplied as more families have been drawn to the church. Darren is taking up a position as Chaplain to Wakefield Hospice, as Cass takes up a new role as a psychiatrist with the child and adolescent mental health team in Northallerton. So please pray for Darren and Cass and their family during this period of great change for them.
Darren leaves us in good health as a church, thanks to God’s grace, with Simon Dowson bringing new ideas as Team Rector, for which we are grateful.
