We are the body of Christ

Christian Aid Week 10th – 16th May 2015

Help urgently required: could this be you?

This Christian Aid Week, thousands of churches will get out into the community answering Jesus’s call to help people in need. Through house-to-house collecting, we are part of the biggest act of Christian witness in Britain and Ireland. Last year with our support, £11 million (€14 million) was raised from an incredible 20,000 churches across the UK and Ireland. St John’s and St Luke’s contribution to Christian Aid and Christian Aid Week reaches far beyond our own community to those who need our support the most.
‘I know that the Lord secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy’ – Psalm 140:12
We already have a very strong band of collectors some 80+ strong. This year we are in need of two new street coordinators which isn’t as daunting or onerous as people might think. The collectors by and large are there already and all a co-ordinator needs to do is have a quick ring round to check people’s availability, drop off the envelopes with the collector, count the monies for their “patch” and pass the returns on to me. We have one meeting beforehand to tie it all together and that’s it really.
Ann Oxley stood down last year after twelve years of commitment to the street co-ordination of her patch and Caroline Randall has stood down this year because of the extra work she has taken on as Church Warden at St John’s. We’re a friendly bunch –I think! – and committed to raising as much as we can to support the enormously valuable work Christian Aid does. Last year, including gift aid, we raised an amazing £3,000+ in our house to house collection across Bilton. Thank you.
As a co-ordinator, if you get really lucky, you might end up with so many collectors that you don’t even have to collect yourself! That said, the collecting itself can be enjoyable: fresh air, exercise, showing our face in the community and meeting new people. Sunshine guaranteed!
So, could this be you? We hope so. If we got interest from more than two people, we could even split the patches in to smaller ones. That said, you would never have more than ten people to co-ordinate.
The team that is now left is made up of Sue Davis, Tracey Lodge, Vicky Jawara and me, Jane Reichert. Please talk to any of us if you are interested and want to know more. We really do need you. Alternatively, please give me a call on 505606 or email me at: janereichert@hotmail.com Thank you – we look forward to hearing from you and to your joining the “gang”!
