Thoughts for Boston

Thoughts for Boston –

A few years ago I had the privilege of visiting Boston in the US.  A lovely city and lovely people.  Around that time, although not having visited Iraq, I had the privilege of spending time with people from that very different country.

I was reminded of the people from Iraq this week as I witnessed the horrific scenes on the streets of Boston. I can never quite understand how people strive to destroy and bring terror to communities in very different places. I guess it is simply the result of evil. The bible reminds us that terror is sown through evil and the evil one. Evil destroys.  The evil one seeks to do just that.

How this contrasts with the words and life of Jesus whose focus is on love, light, compassion and seeking the best to build community. “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10).

As we view the consequences of the evil sown in Boston and we see the suffering because of evil in various parts of the world let us together pray for the truth of the love and light of Jesus, the compassion of His heart to grow in the hearts of all of us. Let us seek to grow community not to seek individualism to the exclusion of others and to build the sort of society our God desires and longs for in His world.
